The renormalized electron mass in non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics
2007
This work addresses the problem of infrared mass renormalization for a scalar electron in a translation-invariant model of non-relativistic QED. We assume that the interaction of the electron with the quantized electromagnetic field comprises a fixed ultraviolet regularization and an infrared regularization parametrized by $\sigma>0$. For the value $p=0$ of the conserved total momentum of electron and photon field, bounds on the renormalized mass are established which are uniform in $\sigma\to0$, and the existence of a ground state is proved. For $|p|>0$ sufficiently small, bounds on the renormalized mass are derived for any fixed $\sigma>0$. A key ingredient of our proofs is the operator-t…

Reciprocal Effects: Toward a Theory of Mass Media Effects on Decision Makers
2007
The article presents a framework for the analysis of reciprocal effects of mass media—in this case, their impact on subjects of media reports, especially on decision makers in areas of politics and business. It outlines a feedback model with three sets of variables referring to (1) media coverage and media as institutions, (2) awareness and processing of information, and (3) observable effects on subjects and others. The article presents several theories that explain effects on decision makers and illustrate the relevance of this approach with empirical data from a broad range of quantitative studies. In the final section, theoretical and methodological problems of such an approach are discu…
Preference Oriented Measurement of Advertising Response
2015
As the information overload and an extension of the mass media reduces the possibility to get the message to the target group, the firms have to increase their advertising budget to reach the same amount of ad contacts. To be sure, that they don’t waste the money, the companies more often use the instrument of pretesting the commercial campaign. The aim of this paper is to document the advantages of the conjoint-analysis (CA) as a technique for pretesting ads. To evaluate the possibility of using the CA we try in to measure in an empirical study, if informative and emotional ads have an influence on the preferences of the respondent.
Simulation Modeling Using Agents For Mass Customization
2004
Reconfigurable enterprises and production networks — virtual structures of manufacturing enterprises that coalesce and vanish in response to a dynamic marketplace — are one of the main enabler paradigm for mass customizable production. The design and coordination of production networks to changing market dynamics are challenging tasks. Simulation provides the ability to develop prototypes of such complex systems cost effectively and in shorter duration. This Chapter describes how simulation can be utilized in conjunction with multi agent system techniques to develop realistic prototypes of complex decision support systems for the design of coordination strategies in large-scale mass customi…
Negotiation in Distributed Production Planning Environments
2006
Mass customization and global competition push enterprises to adopt proper business models able to capture all the opportunities arising from emerging competition rules. An increasing number of industrial enterprises distribute their production capacity world wide to achieve lower production costs, lower distribution costs (due to the closer proximity to customers), and deeper knowledge of customer needs. As a drawback, coordination of the different production plants and the balance among plants and enterprise goals represent a critical issue in the network management. In this context the paper looks at the production planning problem, adopting a traditional hierarchical time-based perspect…
Structural Health Monitoring of Cracked Beam by the Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method
2012
In this paper a 2D boundary element model is used to characterize the transient response of a piezoelectric based structural health monitoring system for cracked beam. The BE model is written for piezoelectric non-homogeneous problem employing generalized displacements. The dual reciprocity method is used to write the mass matrix in terms of boundary parameters only. The multidomain boundary element technique is implemented to model non-homogeneous and cracked configuration, unilateral interface conditions are also considered to prevent the physical inconsistence of the overlapping between interface nodes belonging to the crack surfaces. To assess the reliability and the effectiveness of th…

During the soviet times pedagogy in Latvia develops in difficult and controversial conditions. It becomes a specific area of influence and a propaganda tool, in which ideologised guidelines of soviet pedagogy prevail. So far Soviet experience in education theory and practice (1940–1941, 1944–1990) has not been fully identified and evaluated because it is “recent” history. People living during the soviet times have developed self-experience, based on which conclusions can be made. At the same time young people develop this experience in their daily life (communicating with people, watching and reading in the mass media), thus based on other people’s experience. One of the sources promoting t…
Production planning in reconfigurable enterprises and reconfigurable production systems
2005
Reconfigurable enterprises and reconfigurable production systems represent nowadays one of the key responses towards the organisational and manufacturing needs arising in the new era known as mass customization. The paper proposes an Agent Based approach for the production planning activities in reconfigurable enterprises, characterized by complex, articulated and geographically distributed production capacities contended by many product families and composed by reconfigurable production systems that allow quick adjustment of production capacity and functionality consenting to manufacture different products of the same part family.
Reconfigurable control of robotized manufacturing cells
2007
This paper investigates the field of manufacturing system control. The addressed subject is indeed very fascinating, due to the importance that it has reached in the last decades both at research and industrial level. On the other hand, it seems to the author that most of the complexity intrinsic to the subject itself relies on the different meanings or levels of abstraction that both the terms ''manufacturing system'' and ''control'' may symbolize. The presented research aims to face the topic in a concrete fashion, i.e., by developing a control software system for a specific, although easy to be generalized, robotized manufacturing cell. Two different development methodologies, from the c…
